Philip In Profile:
Philip Stewart Photographics was established and
continues to thrive due to Philip's desire to step off
the path tread by most photographers;
"I'm a people photographer first and foremost,
although much of our time is spent as wedding
photographers we still maintain a generic approach to
the photographic industry, for example landscape
photography is a vital element of our photographic
portfolio in that a perfect wedding photograph can often
require the landscape - as a background - to be as vital
an element as the people. Both are required to achieve
the standards of photographic result for which we have
become known".
Philip's photographic work is as diverse and fresh as
any - you only have to look at his photographic portfolio
for evidence, it is brimming with variety. For this
reason he is often called upon to take innovative
photographs of objects as well as the more common
portrait photography, commercial photography and wedding
photography.
"I think my
photographic style is natural, with easy, sometimes
energetic movement and life. I like to think of my
wedding photography in particular as an extension of
that: captured moments with natural light".
But why has Philip been
so successful in his photographic career? After all so
many fail, or fall into photographic obscurity as 'also
rans'. His experience, professionalism and people skills
have been as important as his exceptional photographic
abilities in the successful development of his
photography career. "Lucky breaks have to to be
earned and worked for in the world of photography; all
the experimenting, testing and slogging around can take
a long time before things start to happen. When it does,
you have to recognise it, grab it and build on it."
The diversity and
quality of Philip's work is demonstrated in his success
as a wedding photographer. If you pick up a weddings
page of the local newspaper, it is always immediately
obvious which have been the work of Philip Stewart
Photographics. "I am involved with the production,
location and preparation, treading the line of being in
control without encroaching on the expertise of my team,
for it is this established group of skilled individuals
which allows the business to expand without losing any
of the personal contact for which we have become
known".
Visiting Philip Stewart
Photographics new purpose built facility, is a pleasant
experience. On entry, the reception area and beautiful
wooden floored studio with its large south facing
windows allow warm sunlight to flood in, invoking a
restful ambience somewhat in contrast with the unseen
high productivity of the on-site processing and
production laboratory. Hidden to most visitors, it is a
hive of activity, the office telephone rings often as
clients past and present call to arrange studio
sittings, outdoor portraits, weddings and more. When not
meeting with or talking to customers, Philip can be
found in the laboratory, mucking in with the team -
preparing proofs, albums, enlargements - one gets
an impression of fast moving organised progress -
reflecting the development of Philip Stewart
Photographics over the past few years.
Philip is clearly
passionate about photography and there is undoubtedly
much creativity still to come. "Your style and
reputation sustain a photographic career," he says.
"But above all it's about people and it's about
professionalism". |
